Fire-hit Burnham-On-Sea family did not have home insurance in place

-

A Burnham-On-Sea family whose home was severely damaged by a huge blaze this week did not have home insurance in place, leaving them to face a huge repair bill.

As reported here ten homes were evacuated in Quantock Close on Monday (July 8th) when fire crews were called to tackle the huge blaze shortly after 12.30am which left two homes gutted.

Resident Simon Izard, pictured right, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Unfortunately, when we checked our home insurance policy it had only recently expired and was due to be renewed.”

“It has been a huge shock as we face a repair bill for tens of thousands of pounds.”

“The support from the community continues to be superb – people we’ve never met before have been offering us help.”

“One local lady has even offered to organise a fundraising event for us to help raise cash towards the repair work, which is fantastic.”

A second home next door was also damaged in the blaze and also needs to be repaired.

Simon added: “Many of our possessions from the upstairs rooms have been lost – we’ve salvaged just a few bags of things so it will take a long time to get over this.”

An electrical fault with a fridge freezer in an outbuilding is believed to have started the fire, which quickly spread to the terrace of homes.

The roof and upstairs rooms are a mangled mess after the blaze
