A retired couple thought they were going quackers when they discovered this marrow in the shape of a duck in their vegetable patch this autumn!
Marilyn and Lionel Partridge from Cross near Cheddar were so surprised by the way the vegetable had grown that they took it to Sanders Garden World, near Burnham-On-Sea, where they had bought the plant that produced the squash.
Marilyn said: “We thought that the marrow looked so much like a duck when we cut it off the plant that we put it on our garden wall for people to see.”
“When our grandchildren, Matilda, Henry and Finley Doel, told us that they had entered a bird modelling competition at Sanders Garden World as part of its Wild Bird Care Week, we decided to take it along to add to the garden centre’s display.”
“We grow lots of vegetables in our garden at home and we haven’t done anything differently with this one, which is why we were so surprised by its shape.”
Visitors to the Brent Knoll garden centre can see the marrow in the wild bird care display and Peter Burks, General Manager, said: “This is certainly a very unusually shaped vegetable and has generated quite a bit of interest from customers. We would like to thank Marilyn and Lionel for bringing it in for people to see.”
