Campaigners fighting National Grid’s controversial proposals for a series of 400,000 volt electricity pylons running through the Burnham-On-Sea area have this week handed in a petition to Number 10 Downing Street.
Members of the groups No Moor Pylons, Pylon Moor Pressure and Somerset Alliance Against Pylons presented the 2,000 name petition in Westminster on Thursday (October 13th).
Paul Hipwell, Chairman of the No Moor Pylons Group, was joined by parish councillor Chris Ambrose and local resident Fiona Torrens-Spence for the visit where they were met Burnham’s MP, Tessa Munt.
The group also met the Minister of State for the Department of Energy and Climate Change, Charles Hendry, as pictured above, to discuss their concerns.
Last month, National Grid announced its choice of route for the proposed Hinkley C connection through Somerset, which will predominantly follow route corridor 1A close to Burnham with some variations onto corridor 2.
