Dozens of Burnham-On-Sea people flocked to a health food shop in the town on Saturday morning (February 10th) when it took part in a nationwide food tasting event.
Kyffins in Victoria Street is one of 600 shops nationwide involved in the second annual ‘Purple Love Week’, Britain’s largest co-ordinated testing event. It is being held in delicatessans, farm shops, butchers and bakers across the UK from February 10-17th.
Shop owner Tom Kyffin, who is pictured giving customer Zoe Ryder a taste of several foods during Saturday’s event, said: “This fun event really does serve to highlight the serious issue of how we can keep our high streets buzzing and we’re really excited to be taking part in Purple Love Week 2007.”
“The event was created by a regional food producer from Dorset who’s made a real commitment to support independent shops.”
Organisers say the reason for picking the purple theme is that it’s an independent colour which stands out against all else. Also, the ‘love’ theme is used because it expresses what independent shops need a bit of right now.
A further tasting morning will be held at Kyffins on Wednesday (February 14th), which is Valentines Day.
