Burnham-On-Sea food shop celebrates 2008 ‘Purple Love Week’

-

Scores of Burnham-On-Sea residents flocked to a health food shop in the town on Saturday (February 9th) to take part in a nationwide food-tasting event.

Kyffins in Victoria Street is one of 600 shops nationwide involved in the third annual ‘Purple Love Week’, Britain’s largest co-ordinated testing event.

It is being held in delicatessans, farm shops, butchers and bakers across the UK from February 9th-16th.

Shop owner Tom Kyffin, who is pictured, said: “Our aim is simple – to encourage people to come and enjoy great food with us. At Kyffins we’ll have lots of free tastings and special food offers throughout the week.”

“We hope that lots of our friends and new people will come and find out more about us – and meet other nice people while they enjoy some great food.”

The event was created by a regional food producer from Dorset with the aim of supporting independent shops.

Organisers say the reason for picking the purple theme is that it’s an independent colour which stands out against all else. Also, the ‘love’ theme is used because of the event being held during Valentines week.

Giles Henschel, founder of Purple Love Week, says: “Purple Love Week started as a fun way of brightening up February, butb this year we’ve got involved with many more producers who want to support the event. We really hope that more people will join in this year than ever before to seek out the ost filled pie, the cheesiest cheese, proper butcher or just the best ever olives.”
