Burnham-On-Sea fire crews called to smoke-logged Puriton property

-

Burnham-On-Sea, Bridgwater and Taunton fire crews were sent to reports of a possible fire at a conmercial property on the Dunball Industrial Estate in Puriton on Saturday (November 25th).

Crews were called out at 11.04am following a call from site security, reporting smoke inside one of the units was emerging from a unit.

“Within minutes of the first crew arriving we confirmed that smoke was issuing from the shutter doors of an industrial unit,” says a spokesman.

“Staff of the neighbouring unit had made contact with the keyholder. Crews investigated and reported that they believed this to be a refrigeration unit on a trailer running inside the warehouse.”

“At 11.31am crews confirmed they had gained entry to the unit, which was filled with smoke.”

“Crews set to work with 2 breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet and a safety jet to investigate further.”

“At 11.42am the fire was located within the extraction system of a mobile MRI trailer, sat within a warehouse measuring around 100m x 40m.”

“After sectoring the incident, into two sectors, crews were able to remove the MRI trailer and tractor out to the open, while other crews worked within the warehouse to clear it of the smoke and fumes.”

“At 12.28pm the incident was brought under control. The fire within the extraction hose was confirmed to be out on our arrival but the warehouse was heavily smoke logged as a result.”

“Crews used a thermal imaging camera to confirm that the fire was out before using three positive pressure ventilation fans to clear the warehouse of the smoke and fumes.”

There were no casualties and duty of care was left with the owner of the unit.
