A traditional seaside Punch and Judy show will be providing entertainment to families on Burnham-On-Sea beach from this Easter following an absence of several years.
Professor Paul Wheeler has secured the concession to set up his traditional seaside show during the tourist season.
“My show is the old-fashioned stripped canvas booth with all wooden hand-crafted puppets performing a traditional show,” Paul told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“I am very excited to have gained the tender for Burnham beach this year and can’t wait to get stuck in.”
Paul has performed his traditional show on ITV1’s This Morning and on Channel 5’s Paul Merton’s Great Adventures and is a full member of the Punch & Judy Fellowship and Equity.
He has been performing on and off since he was aged seven and has been fully employed in the role since 2005.
Each of his performances lasts around 25 minutes and spectators are invited to make a minimum donation of £1. More details about the shows are available here.
Beach concessions at Burnham and Berrow are overseen by Sedgemoor District Council. This year it has offered the concessions on a daily basis to encourage more attractions to the beach, avoiding bad weather.
