Burnham-On-Sea’s Pubwatch group is helping to reduce late night crime and anti-social behaviour in the town.
The group, which has been running for 14 years, is working with local police to encourage safe drinking environments in licensed premises across Burnham.
“Burnham Pubwatch has been successful for a great number of years now and collectively we are managing to reduce crime and disorder and anti-social behaviour in the town,” said Burnham Pubwatch Chairman Martin Lloyd.
“Voluntary schemes like Pubwatch show how licensed businesses can work effectively together to promote a safer drinking environment in their local community, by sharing information and forging better links with the Police and making a real difference to improving the safety of people working and socialising in our town and city centres.”
Those who cause crime or disorder in local pubs and clubs are banned by the Pubwatch group, which has members across the town.
The group recently saw Somerset West Businesses Against Crime (SWBAC) pull out of the scheme, however it says the overall Pubwatch group remains strong across the town.
Martin added: “SWBAC is no longer taking part in the administration side of the scheme and the members would like to thank Andrew Sharman from that organisation for the work he has done.”
