A new group of Burnham-On-Sea residents who want to take on the running of the town’s ailing Princess Hall has been unevield this week.
Called ‘Team Princess’, they have been working behind the scenes for several months on plans to revitalise the theatre and community building, pictured here.
The group, consisting of Mike Lang, Tom Ashton, Jamei Roberts, Jeff Ham and Gordon Clayton, is due to present its proposals for the building to ‘The Friends of the Princess’ group.
The group is also calling for a public meeting to be held at the theatre to find ways of securing its future as a community facility.
A spokesman for the group told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We have some exciting propsals to keep the Princess as a public resource that everyone can use without exception, while at the same time making enough money to secure its future.”
He added that this week’s meeting with the Friends of the Princess group is intended to find ways that the two groups can work closely together.
The spokesman added: “It’s not our intention to get involved in setting up rival bids – the best way forward is for everybody involved to get together.”
“We want to expand this team and bring as many people as possible into the bid. So far we have a season of live music events organised, and are setting up comedy shows, theatre and arts perfomances at the Princess for the autumn/winter of 2009/10.”
“It’s vital to get the building back into regular use in the next few months for the summer season.”
“Profits from events organised inder the Team Princess banner will go towards establishing the independent management and expansion of the buildings activities, while preserving the conmmunity and the existing users involvement and security.”
