Three-way race is underway to take over Burnham-On-Sea’s Princess Hall

-

Three groups are now in the running to take over Burnham-On-Sea’s Princess Hall.

One is a commercial group of local businessmen, the other is a group of local arts and music enthusiasts, and the third is the Friends of The Princess, which was set-up last year by Sedgemoor District Council to look after the building in the short-term.

The well-known local faces behind the two new groups say they do not want to be named, while discussions are underway with Sedgemoor District Council regarding the possible acquisition of the loss-making hall.

Members of the arts group met Sedgemoor District Council bosses last Wednesday (January 21st) and told Burnham-On-Sea.com afterwards that the meeting had been “very positive.”

A spokesman for the group explained its plan for the building: “We intend to attract big name music acts to the Princess, not tribute bands or 1970s groups, but current stars who will attract large crowds of new visitors into Burnham.”

Burnham-On-Sea.com reported last month that the future of the hall was a little brighter following the creation of a new ‘friends’ group.

Sedgemoor District Council have been responsible for the Princess since local Government reorganisation in 1974. The Princess was subject to a major refurbishment (£700,000 plus) in the mid 1990s.
