Multi-million pound proposals for a Learning and Cultural Quarter in Burnham-On-Sea took a major step forward this week.
It comes after an agreement between several community groups that initial plans be drawn up for a new, bigger community facility based on the existing Princess Hall (pictured).
The meeting included representatives from the Burnham and Highbridge Community Centre, Burnham and Highbridge Town Council, Princess Hall Users, the Regeneration Partnership, Somerset County Council, Sedgemoor District Council and King Alfred School.
“The concept plans had been devised by Consultant Architect Nigel Grainge, after talking with these organisations and working with ideas previously developed as part of the regeneration initiative for the Learning and Cultural Quarter and the Princess Street area,” Sedgemoor District Council spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“The plans provide for flexible space that would give new and greater opportunity for community uses.”
“The Learning and Cultural Quarter has been established as a priority project in the overall regeneration ambitions for Burnham and Highbridge. It will provide a new ‘heart’ to the town.”
Each organisation will now consult with its members on the ideas presented, before more detailed work goes ahead on the proposals, including working up the business case and how it should be managed. Wider consultation with the public will also follow.
