Line-up of bidders for Burnham’s Princess Hall to be revealed

-

The future of Burnham-On-Sea’s Princess Hall will take a step forward next week when the list of firms in the running to take over it will be revealed.

Sedgemoor District Council is expected to announce the firms who have submitted bids as part of the commercial competition to manage it.

Among the groups will be The Friends of The Princess, which currently runs the hall in conjunction with Sedgemoor District Council.

Nicola Slawski, Group Manager of Regeneration at Sedgemoor District Council, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The European competition is underway and from February 3rd we will be in a position to say how many bids have been received and by whom.”

“We will then assess the bid – or bids – and announce the successful group or firm later in the year.”

Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported last year that several local groups were considering making bids to take over the hall and turn it into an entertainment centre.

Sedgemoor District Council has been responsible for the Princess since a local Government re-organisation in 1974. The Princess was subject to a major refurbishment (costing £700,000 plus) in the mid 1990s, but has been a loss-making facility in recent years, sparking fears that it may close. The district council is seeking a new owner to take it over and run it as a community facility.
