A Burnham-On-Sea couple were among 6,000 guests recently invited to Buckingham Palace to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Prince’s Trust.
Roy Wallis, pictured here with wife Eve outside the famous London gates, is a local Princes Trust volunteer and also acts as both a business mentor and panelist who helps young people to present viable business plans when applying for loans from the Trust.
He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Prince Charles wanted to thank as many volunteers as possible and therefore arranged a garden party at Buckingham Palace to mark the occasion. A large number of people were selected to go and I was fortunate to be among them. There were 6,000 of us in all – it was superb.”
Roy added that while the Trust has good support in the Burnham area, the group is keen to hear from local businesses who may be interested in sponsoring local youngsters. And the group is also looking for premises in the Burnham area where interviews of young people can be carried out each month.
“We need a small conference room and a waiting area,” he explained. “There are usually four panelists at each meeting and we see 3-4 applicants over the course of an afternoon. It is quite urgent that we find accommodation – the panelists live all over Somerset and our previous meeting point in Bridgwater is unfortunately being withdrawn.”
