A Burnham-On-Sea teenager who is the British and European water skiing champion in her age category has won a Pride of Somerset Youth Award this week.
Lauren Bird, 14, became the youngest ever girl to water ski across the English Channel last year. She completed the 21-mile crossing last August in a time of 54 minutes and six seconds, as reported here.
On Friday evening her proud family and friends watched her receive a Pride of Somerset Youth Award during a ceremony organised by the Rotary Club.
Friday’s event was held at the Conference Centre at Somerset College in Taunton, and BBC Somerset’s breakfast presenter Claire Carter presented the awards.
