Western Power Distribution restored electricity to homes in the centre of Highbridge during the early hours of Sunday morning (October 19th) after a seven hour power cut.
Residents in Market Street were without power from 6.51pm on Saturday night until 2.11am on Sunday – leaving homes in the dark and causing distruption to several businesses.
Western Power Distribution spokesman Paul Hamill told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “An underground cable fault in Market Street initially left six homes without power from 6.51pm and a further twelve were later also disconnected.”
He added: “Our team switched all the homes onto a temporary supply at 2.11am, reconnecting them.”
The company apologised for the inconvenience.
One takeway food shop in Market Street was forced to shut earlier than planned, while a convenience store had to keep a security guard in place until its window shutters could be closed after 2am.
