Power cut blacks out 50 Highbridge homes after lines brought down

-

Dozens of residents on the outskirts of Burnham-On-Sea were left without power and telephones on Tuesday evening (March 13th) after a construction lorry brought down several electricty lines.

Alstone Lane in Highbridge was closed to traffic by police and fire crews – as pictured here – after the incident occurred near the Royal Artillery Arms public house at 5.15pm.

Western Power Distribution spokesman John Chivers told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I can confirm power supplies to 49 customers were interrupted between 5.15pm and 8pm after a vehicle brought down the lines, affecting our low voltage supply in the area.”

An eyewitness told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A large vehicle which was delivering building materials to a nearby construction site was too high to get underneath the lines and brought them down.”
