Power cut blacks out 445 homes in Brent Knoll area

-

A power cut left hundreds of homes near Burnham-On-Sea without electricity for up to three hours last night (Thursday, February 9th).

Supplies went off to 455 homes in Brent Knoll shortly after 6pm, leaving some residents without heating as temperatures outside hovered just above freezing.

Among the people affected were Brent Knoll Brownies, who were meeting in the village hall at the time the power went off.

The group’s Kate Sutton told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were left in the dark and managed to keep the meeting going but cut it short when the temperature of the village hall fell.”

“It was ironic that our discussion topic was the environment and saving energy – we had to do the activity using the light from the emergency lighting until the parents picked up their children.”

A spokesman for Western Power Distribution added: “Customers in Brent Knoll experienced an interruption to their supplies. This follows a transient fault in our 11,000 vault network at 6.13pm, leaving 445 homes without electricity. Supplies were reconnected as quickly as possible but around 40 homes were without power until 9.27pm.”

Western Power Distribution apologised for the inconvenience caused.
