Power cut hits 89 Highbridge homes after winds bring down cables

-

Dozens of residents in Highbridge were without power on Wednesday morning (October 1st) after strong winds brought down power lines.

The first heavy storm of autumn sent a wooden pole crashing down, as pictured here.

North Avenue on the Morland Estate was closed both ways while Western Power Distribution attended the scene and fallen power cables were removed between Morland Road and West Avenue.

Residents at the scene told Burnham-On-Sea.com that a passing car had been damaged when it had been driven over the cables.

Western Power Distribution spokeswoman Irene Evans told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Supplies were cut to 89 customers after a pole snapped off in the high winds.”

“All those affected, bar two, have been reconnected. Those two still without power will be connected by lunchtime when a new pole is installed.”
