A new fitness project that rewards people who lose weight with money for local community projects has launched in Highbridge this week.
The Pound 4 Pound Community Project has re-started at Highbridge’s Morland Hall after successfully being launched last year.
For every pound that participants lose over a 12-week period, £1 will go straight back into community projects.
The project is a collaboration between Sedgemoor Community Partnership, Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and 1610 Sports Centre and is aimed at promoting healthy and active lifestyles and weight loss.
Many individuals, local organisations and businesses have already ‘signed up’ for this initiative and more are welcome.
“Community Pounds is focused on those communities with the highest health and social need, and who have high prevalence of overweight and obesity levels whereby overweight and obese adults pledge to lose weight over a four-month period as part of an overall community effort,” said Richard Mathews, one of the organisers alongside John Parkes.
“Total community weight loss – the number of pounds – will be rewarded with equal levels of funding – one pound for each pound lost – with the money to be spent on projects within the community.”
Money raised will be used to provide support to each community undertaking the challenge.
The centre will be running a drop in weigh-in session every Friday from 10:30am – 11:30am until September. For more details, call 07827 647856 or email info@morlandhall.org.uk
