This vintage poster promoting Burnham-On-Sea as an ideal holiday destination was sold for £660 when it was auctioned in London this week.
The Burnham poster – produced by British Railways in or around 1961 – was expected to sell for between £300 and £500 at the sale at auction house Christies in South Kensignton.
The poster – emblazoned with the words ‘Come to Burnham for sea, sand and sun’ – features a tanned woman with perfect teeth and conservatively-dressed in a pink dress.
It reassures potential visitors that from the railway station at Highbridge there are “frequent bus services to Burnham, Berrow and Brean.”
The poster was printed by Waterlow & Sons of London and measures 40 x 25 inches.
