‘Severe staff shortages’ hit post deliveries in Burnham-On-Sea

-

Royal Mail has this week apologised to residents in Burnham-On-Sea after delays to postal deliveries during the past fortnight.

Many Burnham and Highbridge residents have found that packages passing through the Dunstan Road delivery office, pictured here, have been delayed by up to a week.

The concerns were first raised on Bunham-On-Sea.com’s discussion forums here earlier in March.

Burnham-On-Sea.com understands that five staff have recently left Burnham’s sorting office and a further three are on long-term sick leave, leaving what one worker calls “severe shortages” and remaining staff “struggling to keep up.”

A Royal Mail spokesman said this week: “We are in the process of recruiting ten new employees. In the meantime, staff are working extremely hard to ensure a consistent service to our customers.”

One member of Burnham-On-Sea.com’s forums wrote: “I received a parcel on 20th March via The Post Office from Interflora – it contained birthday flowers from my Grandaughter ordered for 16th March. They were completely ruined – leaves all turned yellow, flowers wilted, bottom of stems brown and dry.”

“Obviously this had been in transit or in the local sorting office for several days – the box was quite clearly marked Interflora in large letters and from the shape obviously contained flowers which had cost someone good money!”
