A couple who stole money from post while working at Burnham-On-Sea’s Royal Mail Delivery Office have this week been ordered to pay back almost £20,000.
Jayne Hopkins, 44, who worked as the Delivery Office Manager from November 2008 to April 2009 was last year convicted of theft and money laundering and jailed for 14 months after gathering £40,000 in currency being sent through the post.
Her husband David, a postman at Bridgwater, was also charged with converting criminal property amounting to £3,200. He was also given a three-month suspended sentence plus 150 hours’ unpaid work.
Appearing before Taunton Crown Court this week, Mrs Hopkins was told she must pay back £10,000 within six months under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. Her husband has been ordered to pay back £9,974 within one month.
