Portable buildings firm Portakabin has this week been granted planning permission to open a new centre on Highbridge’s Isleport Industrial Park, creating new jobs in the town.
The firm will employ 31 full-time staff at the new centre, to be located on vacant land next to the roundabout at the junction of Mark Road and Bennett Road, as pictured above.
Burnham and Highbridge Town Council has welcomed the development, with Deputy Town Clerk Denise Emery telling Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Members of the Town Council have supported this application – it brings valuable job opportunities.”
The 1.8 hectare site will be landscaped with a vegetation screening around its perimeter and 28 new car parking spaces will also be introduced.
Sedgemoor District Council’s planning team has also requested that the hours of working at the site be restricted from 7.30am to 7.30pm on weekdays and 7.30am-1pm on Saturdays, with no working on Sundays, in order to safeguard local residents from noise and disturbance during unsocial hours.
Portakabin’s planning application covered the formation of a centre for the hire and refurbishment of modular buildings, to include two buildings to form an office and workshop, plus alterations to access, parking and storage areas.
