Fundraising 1940s dance evening to be held for Burnham’s Poppy Fund

-

Supporters of Burnham-On-Sea’s Royal British Legion are holding a fundraising 1940s-themed poppy dance this evening (Saturday).

The event will take place at The Ritz Social Club in Victoria Street from 7pm with all funds raised going to The Royal British Legion.

Tickets, priced at £5 per person, are available from Burnham’s Tourist Information Centre, The Ritz Social Club and Bessie’s Sweet Shop in Burnham High Street.

“The evening will give visitors a chance to learn the dances of the 40’s – it will be a fun evening raising money for a good cause,” organiser Gaynor Browne told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Meanwhile, poppy sellers have begun collecting in supermarkets across the town in the run-up to Burnham’s Remembrance Day commemorations on Sunday November 10th.

A ‘Pop-up Gallery’ is also to be held outside the legion’s Victoria Street HQ on Saturday November 9th. The gallery will showcase a collection of 1940’s and 50’s advertising posters.

The Poppy Appeal raises funds for The Royal British Legion, the nation’s leading Armed Forces charity providing care and support to all members of the British forces community.
