Burnham-On-Sea’s swimming pool is to close for ten days during February when the facility gets an overhaul costing tens of thousands of pounds.
Following a partial collapse of the pool’s wall last month, when several metres of tiles fell off the side of the pool, Burnham’s Swim and Sports Academy this week told Burnham-On-Sea.com that the pool would be shutting for maintenance between February 14th and February 23rd.
A water pipe burst at the property earlier this month, causing damage to the conference room, and the pool was also struck by vandals last weekend when a window was smashed at the front of the paved courtyard area.
“We’ll be closing the pool to fully sort out all the issues, including the tiling problems in the pool itself,” owners Mark and Sara Cox-Conklin, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“We’ll also be doing re-tiling and painting in the changing rooms, the cafe will get a revamp, and the conference room and bussiness alley will get new flooring.”
Mark added: “It has been a challenging few weeks, but we are still very much commited to the pool and all our customers.”
The cafe and shop will remain open during the maintenance work and only the pool itself will be temporarily closed.
Burnham-On-Sea.com was first to report in December how the pool’s owners had discovered several metres of tiles along the pool wall had fallen away overnight.
