Hundreds of churchgoers in Burnham-On-Sea have backed the fight to save the town’s swimming pool from closure.
Reverend Graham Witts of St Andrew’s Church has this week handed the independent campaign group Save Our Swimming Pool a petition signed by 300 parishioners over the Christmas period.
Rev Witts told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I asked everyone who attended our Christmas services if they’d show their support for the pool by signing the petition forms in the church. I was delighted with the large number of signatures we collected.”
It takes the total number of signatures collected by pool campaigners to almost 6,000.
Revd Witts drew smiles when he adapted his customary opening prayer at the start of Monday’s Burnham Town Council meeting by dropping in a few extra words to ask for hope that the pool could be saved.
