Work to create a £300,000 expansion of Burnham-On-Sea’s swimming pool is due to be completed over the next few weeks.
Construction work outside the front of Burnham Swim and Sports Academy began last year and the structure of the new building is now almost complete, with work now concentrating on the interior of the fitness complex.
Co-owner Sara Cox-Conklin, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week that plans to open the new facilities are being made.
“The first phase of the project is progressing well and is due to be completed in May,” she said.
“We intend to have an official opening ceremony on the day of our June triathlon.”
“The first phase will deliver new fitness and cardio studios with extra weights, running treadmills and other equipment plus extra changing rooms. It will cater for up to 300 members.”
She added: “The second phase of our expansion, at a later date, will see a new 15 x 30ft therapy pool introduced with water heated to 90 degrees.”
