Burnham-On-Sea swimming pool re-opens after tiles problem

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s swimming pool re-opened to the public on Wednesday morning (December 31st) after a problem with the pool’s tiles was partially resolved.

Burnham-On-Sea.com was first to report on Tuesday how the pool’s owners, Sara-Jane Cox-Conklin and husband Mark, had discovered several metres of tiles along the pool wall had fallen away overnight.

A diver was brought in to remove the loose ceramic tiles, as pictured below, and Mark told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Tuesday evening that the pool was now ready to re-open.

“Andy Pusill has led the really long and hard effort to get the tiles out of the pool and get it cleaned up so we can re-open,” he said.

“One side of the pool and lane will remain closed but we will be opening up three lanes on Wednesday, December 31st.”

“A scuba-based underwater pool repair engineer will be assessing the necessary work and repairs that will be needed to get the pool back to 100 per cent.”

“Sara and I thank everyone for their patience and hope they understand how devastating these things are to us (and costly).”

“Even with seemingly endless, costly repairs we are still happy we took over the pool and are so thankful for everyone that uses the pool and supports it.”

The pool opened in July after Mark and Sara took over its lease in May from Sedgemoor District Council after several months’ uncertainty about its future.
