Burnham-On-Sea swimming pool closed after tiles peel away

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s swimming pool was shut to the public on Tuesday (December 30th) after several metres of tiles came off the side of the pool overnight.

A diver was brought in on Tuesday morning to remove dozens of the loose ceramic tiles, as pictured.

It came after the pool’s shocked owners, Sara-Jane Cox-Conklin and husband Mark, made the discovery that the tiles had fallen away when they opened up at 6.30am.

Mark Conklin explained to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A section of tiles has unfortunately worked loose without warning so we’ve had to temporarily close the pool while we investigate.”

“We want to get the pool re-opened as soon as possible and apologise to our customers for the inconvenience.”

A notice at the entrance to the Swim and Sports Academy adds: “Sorry for any inconvenience. The pool is closed due to tile loss.”

The pool opened in July after Mark and Sara took over its lease in May from Sedgemoor District Council after several months of uncertainty about its future.
