Two men have been arrested after a break-in at Burnham-On-Sea’s recently-opened Swim and Sports Academy in the early hours of Wednesday morning (July 30th).
Owner Mark Conklin, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com how he found the two when he arrived to open up the premises at 5.30am.
“As I was parking my car, I noticed the lower half of a door near the plant room had been kicked in,” he said.
“I thought it could just have been vandalism, but when I opened the door to go inside I found one man alseep on the floor and another just stirring.”
“I locked the door again, called the police, and drove my car right up against the door to prevent the two leaving.”
Mark continued: “Within 15 minutes the police arrived and two men were arrested. They were both aged around 18-20 and from Bristol.”
“Nothing appears to be missing or badly damaged – they just appear to have been drinking and wanted a place to sleep overnight.”
The new facility only opened last week after owners Sara Cox-Conklin and Mark Conklin had spent six weeks modernising the premises since taking over its lease in May following months of uncertainty.
Police spokesman Wayne Baker told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Police were alerted at about 5.45am to a break-in at the swimming pool in Berrow Road. A 20-year-old man and 19-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of burglary.”
