Burnham residents urged to check polling cards for May’s election

-

Polling cards for May’s General and Local Elections will be arriving on doormats in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge over the Easter weekend.

Residents are being advised by Sedgemoor District Council to check their polling card to make sure that they know which polling station to use on Thursday, May 7th.

“If you don’t receive a polling card, you may not be registered to vote. This needs to be carried out by April 20th to make sure that you can have your say at the ballot box,” said a spokesman.

Recent research conducted by YouGov for the Electoral Commission found that 21% of people who rent privately think they’re automatically registered to vote if they pay council tax.

69% do not know the deadline to register to vote, with 13% thinking it is already too late to register. Residents can register to vote by visiting www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
