Police warn local van owners to be vigilant after spate of incidents

-

Police are warning van owners in the Burnham-On-Sea area to be extra vigilant after a rise in night time thefts involving the vehicles.

Avon and Somerset Police’s Neighbourhood Watch team said this week “there has been an increase in theft from and of vans, particularly Ford Transits, in the area.”

“Our intelligence has highlighted these mostly occur during the early hours, between 1am and 3am, but are not exclusive to these times.”

“We are sharing crime prevention material which we ask everyone to read and share. It is imperative that any victims report their incident – either through 101 or the online reporting method.”

“If you do make a report online, please include the following details: Make and Model of Vehicle, How the offenders gained access Any other details you feel may be relevant. Report on 101 or at https://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/report/.”

“If anyone has suffered a theft of power tools during the two weeks prior to 25th November from their van, we recovered a large amount of materials in the region of £20k. We have now reunited owners with about 60% of that but are still looking for owners.”
“If it’s not claimed unfortunately it will be destroyed as the police no longer have the facilities to auction items anymore, so we would like to be able to reunite it back to the owners, serial numbers or distinctive markings could assist with identifying.”
