Police issue warning to Highbridge parents after boy, 11, is invited into van by driver

A warning has been issued to parents in Highbridge this week after a young boy was approached by the driver of a van, who invited him to get into the vehicle.

Parents and children have been advised to be extra vigilant following the incident in Sparks Way, Highbridge.

Jenny Bigwood, a spokeswoman for Avon and Somerset Police, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Police had a report of an 11-year-old boy being approached by a man in a van in Sparks Way, Highbridge.”

“The incident happened at about 3.45pm on Wednesday 13th February and was reported the following lunch-time.”

“The boy told his parents that a man in a dark blue van spoke to him, inviting him to get into the van.”

She added: “The boy did exactly the right thing by ignoring the man, going home and telling someone about the incident.”

“Churchfield School was informed and sent out a message to parents.”
