The sale of Burnham-On-Sea police station has been put on hold, it’s been announced this week.
Burnham-On-Sea Police Neighbourhood Beat Manager Ryan Dinham, speaking at Monday’s Annual Town Council Meeting, said: “The station was up for sale but we’ve decided to take it off the market and not promote it until alternative accommodation is found.”
He added that “no decisions” have been made about the future of the station, adding that “nothing is planned for the near future.”
Responding to questions from the audience, he added that Burnham Fire Station is not currently being considered as an alternative location for the police and he added that no decision has been taken on whether to use Burnham Library as an office for the police.
Burnham-On-Sea.com reported here last year that Burnham’s Police Station is earmarked to close.
Burnham’s MP James Heappey said: “Burnham and Highbridge needs a police station of its own to make residents feel secure and to provide a base for policing in the town – and nearby – during the summer when the population increases with all our visitors.”
The police station closure has been a key local issue as residents across the Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge area go to the polls for the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) election on Thursday 5th May.
