Burnham-On-Sea police launched a crackdown against speeding motorists on the town’s seafront on Friday evening (June 27th).
Several drivers were pulled over as officers equipped with speed cameras monitored traffic along The Esplanade over the course of the evening.
The operation came amid continuing concern from seafront residents about the problems of speeding traffic and ‘boy racers’.
Burnham-On-Sea.com reported last month how Neighbourhood Watch leaders and residents had decided tackling speed and anti-social use of vehicles along the Esplanade should be the police’s second highest priority after dealing with problems in the Manor Gardens. The priorities are set at quarterly public meetings held by police.
Meanwhile, Burnham-On-Sea.com understands a meeting is due to be held between town councillors, the County Council, police and Burnham Holiday Village during the next few weeks to discuss the possibility of introducing traffic calming measures along the seafront.
