Burnham-On-Sea police marked the ‘International Day of Older Persons’ with a special event in the town on Tuesday (October 1st).
Older people around the world were celebrated as part of the annual event, whose aim is to raise awareness of the issues affecting the lives of senior citizens.
As part of the activities arranged in Somerset to mark the day, Sgt Ash Jones from Burnham-On-Sea Police Station visited members of the senior community to give talks on doorstep crime and cyber safety, as well as distributing copies of the police’s latest Senior Siren magazine.
One of his stops was the weekly meeting of the popular U3A Art Group in Berrow Community Centre.
He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s great to catch up with older members of the community and there is clearly some great artistic talent in this group. I hope that my brief chat, coupled with the information in the Senior Siren, will enhance the safety of the members of this very vibrant group.”
To coincide with International Day of Older Persons, the latest edition of the magazine has been published. This edition features articles on crime prevention, home and personal safety advice in addition to many interesting lifestyle features, including an interview with Lord Tom King.
