Police have confirmed that the body of a man found on Burnham-On-Sea beach at the weekend was not that of a missing yachtsman.
Officers said on Tuesday (June 11th) that their enquiries are still underway to identify the man, whose body was washed up on Burnham-On-Sea beach, near the low lighthouse, on Sunday morning (June 9th).
A Police spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com that they are not treating the death as suspicious. They have referred the case to the Somerset Coroner as a sudden death.
Police confirmed on Tuesday that the body is not that of missing yachtsman David Moore, whose abandoned yacht ran aground on Berrow beach on Monday of last week, as pictured below.
A hunt to find Mr Moore, 43, is still ongoing by Police who say they remain “concerned for his welfare”.
The yacht, called The Egoist, had been seen leaving Watchet Marina on the afternoon of Saturday June 1st.
Coastguards and Burnham-On-Sea RNLI’s lifeboats were launched to investigate following reports of the yacht running aground. They reported no sign of life on board but were unable to tow the vessel away safely.
Readers with information about the missing yachtsman are asked to contact Police on 101 quoting the reference number 5219122957.
