Motorists in the Burnham-On-Sea area have this week been urged to take extra care on roads in the area as police begin a three-month safety operation.
Road policing officers will be carrying out targeted patrols on roads that have been identified as ‘collision hot spots’ through until January.
Chief Inspector Georgiou said: “The majority of road users are safe, law-abiding drivers, but those who do commit these offences will be caught – and will face the prospect of a fine, points on their licence, a court appearance or even imprisonment for more serious offences.”

“We hope this operation will improve the behaviour of those drivers who believe that they are invincible on the road, bring offenders responsible for criminal activity to justice and make our roads a safer place.”
The police’s Road Policing Unit is overseeing the campaign, which is aimed at reducing road casualties, denying criminals the use of roads, reducing anti-social use of roads, and increasing public confidence.
So far this year there have been 35 deaths resulting from road traffic collisions across the whole police force area.
