Burnham-On-Sea police have this week set out their latest ‘hit-list’ of priorities for tackling crime in the town.
A PACT (Partners and Communities Together) meeting was held in the town when Neighbourhood Watch leaders and residents were given a chance to discuss current problems and influence the police’s priorities.
The number priority for police in Burnham remains tackling anti-social behaviour and drinking around Manor Gardens.
“Problems have improved significantly since the CCTV camera was introduced,” said Sergeant Ian Kennett of Burnham Police. “However, youths are at times gathering in the alleyway leading from Winchester Road into Manor Gardens and this will be addressed.”
The second priority for police is speeding and anti-social use of vehicles along the South Esplanade.
“Further police support has been requested in enforcing the area as a ‘leisure drive’,” added Sgt Kennett. County councillor Rosemary Parsons has also requested a meeting to discuss the ongoing problems further.
The third priority for police is “inconsiderate parking” by Steart Avenue and Steart Close. “Vehicles parked here have been obstructing the view of the corners and obstructing pavements,” explained Sgt Kennett.
