A crackdown on town centre crime in Burnham-On-Sea during December saw police issue more than 100 car parking tickets and arrest five shoplifters.
Extra foot patrols by PCSOs and police officers were introduced in a bid to reduce town centre crime.
“The extra patrols worked really well and there have been a lot of positive comments from the public about seeing officers walking on the beat,” Sgt Ian Kennett told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“There has been a decrease in total reported crime of about 10% in December compared to the previous month and shoplifting decreased by 60%. At least five people have been arrested and charged with shoplifting.”
He added: “The public told us that illegal parking in Burnham and Highbridge town centres was a concern and over 100 parking tickets were issued in December.”
Last month, Burnham-On-Sea.com reported here that the extra patrols were being introduced as part of a high-visibility operation.
