Police have started an investigation into a serious road traffic collision that occurred in the early hours of Sunday (May 12th).
The driver of a car with a woman and young child inside lost control in Berrow Road, crashing into a fence and lighting column, ending upside down, as pictured here.
The incident took place at 12.16am between Ash Tree Road and Saxondale Avenue, with residents telling Burnham-On-Sea.com they heard a “loud bang”.
Police spokesman Sam Malone told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were called at 12.16am to a single vehicle collision on Berrow Road.”
“A car had collided with a lamppost and a garden wall before ending up on its roof. The driver of the vehicle made off from the scene and efforts to locate him are ongoing.”
“A woman and an infant, who were passengers in the vehicle, have been taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”
Investigators from the Police’s Collision Investigation Unit were on scene, collecting evidence. Burnham-On-Sea.com
Berrow Road was closed until 9.30am near the junction with Ash Tree Road, with traffic being diverted along Saxondale Avenue.
One local resident, Lindsey Ripley, said: “We live right opposite. The bang woke us up,” and she added that her husband went to help those involved.
