A property in Burnham-On-Sea which was at the centre of an explosives raid by police yesterday (Friday) has been declared safe.
The property in Beatty Way was declared safe shortly after 10pm on Friday night following a search by police and the army bomb disposal team.
“The cordon has been lifted and residents are now able to return to their homes,” police spokesman Martin Dunscombe told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“Some items have been removed for evidential purposes and some for safe disposal.”
He added: “The 36-year-old man arrested at the property remains in police custody at this time.”
“The residents who have been evacuated and the wider community of Burnham-On-Sea are thanked for their patience and cooperation while the police, emergency services and other partners dealt with this incident.”
Police evacuated almost 50 people from their homes to Burnham Community Centre on Friday while the investigation into a number of explosive substances was carried out. Police said the incident was not terrorism related.
