Top community awards for Burnham-On-Sea and Berrow police

-

Police officers in the Burnham-On-Sea area have this week won several prestigious awards in the annual competition to find the best bobbies on the beat in the Avon and Somerset force area.

Constable Esther Robinson from Burnham Police won the title of Somerset West Beat Manager of the year in the annual Community Policing Awards, while the Berrow Beat Team was named Somerset West Beat Team of the Year.

PC Adrian Jones from Burnham-On-Sea Police was also highly commended within the Neighbourhood Beat Manager category.

The winners were announced during a ceremony held at Cadbury House Hotel in Congresbury on Tuesday evening (March 8th).

The Berrow Beat Team was nominated by local residents and businesses after being described as an ‘always-visible presence’, following success in the Pubwatch and Sitewatch schemes.

Inspector Roger Tolley told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a tremendous evening and it was great to see recognition given by the community to those who serve the Burnham area.”

“The achievement by Esther is an outstanding example of the service that is offered. I am extremely proud to be a part of the team here in Burnham.”

The organisers of the Community Policing Awards invite the public to vote for individuals and teams that go above and beyond for the communities they serve.

The awards, organised jointly by Avon and Somerset Police Authority and the Constabulary, are funded entirely by sponsorship from local and national organisations.

The ceremony was attended by over 200 people including Lord Lieutenants, High Sheriffs, Mayors and senior police officers.

Chief Constable Colin Port said: “We have built on the success of these awards year on year on year. Everyone who has come here tonight is a winner for being nominated by people in the community they serve.”

And District Commander for Somerset West, Chief Superintendent Daimon Tilley, added: “I am extremely proud of all our winners both at district and force wide level. We have some excellent and very dedicated officers and staff across this district, which I hope instils confidence within our communities. We are very grateful to the public for taking the time to participate in these awards.”
