Nine people suspected of ram-raiding a shop in Exeter have been arrested 95 miles away after a police chase along the M5 motorway, including through the Burnham-On-Sea area at the weekend.
The incident started in Exeter at a little after 9.30pm on Saturday night.
Police believe the men used two white vans to raid a commercial unit before piling the vehicles with high-value electrical goods and making off.
Traffic police and a helicopter from four forces were involved in chasing the two vans along the M5 through Devon and then across Somerset, including through the Burnham-On-Sea area.
The first vehicle was stopped just over the border in Somerset and five men were arrested.
The second vehicle continued up the M5 and got a considerable distance along the M4 where it was finally stopped at a service station north of Chippenham where four more men were arrested.
Police say all of the electrical equipment was recovered at an estimated value of £200,000.
