Police praise public after making four arrests in Burnham-On-Sea

-

Burnham-On-Sea police have this week praised the public for helping to contribute information that led to four arrests of suspected thieves.

Police were called to Rosewood Avenue after residents reported three youths acting suspiciously. Officers from the response team at Burnham police station attended and after a search they arrested a 16-year-old youth for burglary.

A garden strimmer which had been stolen from a garage was recovered and two further youths have been arrested after admitting the offence. They were released on bail and were charged today (Thursday, November 19th) to appear at Sedgemoor Youth Court on December 4th.

Burnham police also said on Thursday that a 34-year-old man from Taunton has been arrested following a garage burglary in Burnham Road last Friday (November 13th) after a man was seen trying garage doors.

His description was circulated to police and he was stopped nearby shortly afterwards. He is currently on police bail while enquiries are made into another burglary in Bridgwater that he has also been arrested for.

Acting Sergeant Mark Bryant told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are grateful to the public for alerting the police when they see anything suspicious and would ask them to remain vigilant.”

“I would also ask the public to check that their garages and sheds are securely locked and to switch on their lights after dark as a potential thief is more likely to target properties that appear to be unoccupied.”

“Both these offences were committed during the daytime but there have also been recent overnight burglaries in the Burnham area. We are carrying out 24 hour targeted patrols but still need the help of the public”.
