Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Police have made a ‘significant arrest’ as they investigate a spate of burglaries in the two towns.
Sgt Ryan Edwards from Burnham-On-Sea Police, pictured, revealed at this week’s Town Council meeting that a man has been held in connection with a series of local break-ins over the summer.
“There has been an increase in local residential crime which is a concern, and we all know someone who was affected over the summer,” said Sgt Edwards.
“However, we have made a significant arrest over the past week which I am sure will address this and lead to a conviction.”
He added: “We have been carrying out high-visibility patrols – and some less visible patrols in the town – that have given us some good evidence.”
“Officers have been in Burnham’s shops and supermarkets as part of operations and preventative measures.”
“We are really keen to get Burnham and Highbridge’s local neighbourhood policing team visible again. With our numbers cut back, this is easier said than done.”
He told councillors that rates of anti-social behaviour in Burnham and Highbridge have shown a “significant decline” during recent months, and conceded there is more work to be done around traveller groups.
