Burnham-On-Sea fire crews and Police were called to an early morning blaze at a home in the town centre on Sunday (October 3rd).
Crews were called to Technical Street at 5.03am after smoke was seen emerging from a property. Fire appliances from Burnham-On-Sea and Bridgwater were sent to the scene.
A Burnham-On-Sea Fire Station spokesman says: “On arrival, crews confirmed smoke and flames issuing and one person shouting for help from first floor window. At this time fire control were on the phone to another person in another flat giving life-saving advice.”
“Crews rescued the first male from the first floor using a ladder. The second person was then found in the other flat and was fitted with a rescue hood through the first floor window while the BA team made their way through the fire to rescue her.”
“Fire crews rescued the two occupants who suffered from smoke inhalation and were handed to paramedics. Crews also rescued a dog and a cat from the property.”
A fire service spokesman added: “Crews used 6 Breathing Apparatus, 2 Hose Reel Jets, 2 Safety Jets, a Positive Pressure Ventilation fan and Thermal Imaging Cameras to extinguish the fire.”
“The property suffered 15% fire damage and 40% smoke damage.”
“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
Abingdon Street and Technical Street were closed while emergency services were on scene.
