Police turn to local youngsters in stamping down on drink driving

Police in Burnham-On-Sea are using the artistic talents of local youngsters to bring home the ‘Don’t Drink and Drive’ message this Christmas.

Pupils at Berrow School have designed a poster which will be used throughout the Burnham police sector in a bid to publicise the dangers of drink driving and reduce the number of drink related road traffic collisions.

Burnham PCs Tracey Stiles and Pete Wills are behind the scheme, which aims to show that Avon and Somerset Constabulary is relentless on drink drivers.

PC Stiles said: “While this is a very serious message, the children have had some fun in designing the poster which will be seen all around Burnham, Highbridge and Cheddar.”

“We want to drive home the message that drinking and driving costs lives and has a huge impact upon our communities.”

“If people are at a function, office party or out for a Christmas drink, don’t risk being over the limit.”

“If you are going to have a drink, designate someone else to drive or arrange your transport home before you go out.”
