Hit-and-run thieves steal alcohol from Somerfield supermarket
Thieves have stolen hundreds of pounds of alcohol from Somerfield supermarket in Burnham-On-Sea during a daytime hit-and-run attack.
The incident was seen by several RNLI crew members as they returned to the town’s lifeboat station in Pier Street, pictured above, at around 4pm on Friday following a call-out.
One eyewitness, who saw the whole incident unfold in front of his eyes, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A green Vauxhall Cavalier had been parked next to the emergency fire exit door at the back of Somerfield (pictured right).
“The doors to the store suddenly flew open and two men with shopping baskets full of bottles ran out.
“They jumped into the car, where a third man was waiting to drive them away. They sped off down Marine Drive, going through a red traffic light in the process.
“Two managers from the store rushed out after them after the thieves had set off the store’s emergency alarms, but the men had long gone by then.”
Two of the men were in their early 20s and the third, who drove the car, was believed to be in his early 30s with balding hair.
