Police investigate hit-and-run robbery at Burnham Tesco store
Police are appealing for witnesses after a dramatic hit and run robbery at Burnham-On-Sea’s Tesco store on Tuesday evening, October 11th.
Two security guards were attacked by a gang of men armed with machetes as they tried to deliver cash to the supermarket.
The guards had just arrived at the store to fill up the shop’s cash machines when a car drew up alongside their van.
Four or five masked men got out of the Seat Alhambra MPV and threatened the guards with machetes before stealing a substantial amount of cash and driving away.
The robbers then made off in the Seat MPV, which was found soon afterwards burned out by the side of the B3140 Brent Road, near Burnham.
A large area outside the northern end of the Love Lane store, next to two cash machines, was cordoned off by police for several hours after the incident unfolded.
Later in the evening, a Securicor security van and the burnt out wreck of a Seat Alhambra were towed away – as shown in our photographs here.
The vehicles were both taken to Burnham-On-Sea Police Station where further investigations were underway.
One of the security guards attacked during the raid later required minor treatment to an arm injury at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.
